Summer in Puerto Rico is the perfect time to enjoy activities that are both fun and good for your health. From outdoor adventures to indoor options, here are 6 healthy hobbies you can add to your routine for this season.

Outdoor Activities

1. Hiking

Puerto Rico has many hiking trails that offer the chance to explore and enjoy nature. Get ready to discover paths with different levels of difficulty and stunning views. Hiking helps make your heart stronger and benefits your mental health. It brings you in contact with nature’s beauty, reduces stress, and improves your mood.

2. Pickleball

Pickleball is a low-impact sport similar to tennis that is suitable for all ages. The game is played on a smaller court than tennis with a low net and can be played indoors or outdoors. It has become popular because it is easy to learn, less demanding than other racquet sports, and has a lower risk of injury. It is considered a good cardio workout and helps improve flexibility, endurance and coordination.

3. Cycling

Riding a bike along the roads of Puerto Rico is a fun and affordable way to stay active during the summer months. You can explore the beach, the city or the countryside, all of which offer stunning views and the perfect weather to enjoy a bike ride. Cycling is not only an excellent activity for improving circulation, but it is also an effective way to make your muscles and joints stronger. It also builds endurance and lung capacity.

Indoor Activities

4. Yoga classes

If you would rather stay at home or indoors, yoga classes are an excellent option. You can start with the basics and work your way up to the advanced level. A good place to start is by watching yoga videos or having an instructor come to your home. Yoga does more than just improve flexibility and strength. It also helps reduce stress and anxiety by combining postures, breathing techniques and meditation.

5. Cooking healthy meals

Cooking healthy meals is not only fun, but it also lets you control the ingredients you use. You can try recipes that include fresh fruits and vegetables, which are plentiful this season. A great way to maintain a balanced diet is with smoothies, salads, and grilled dishes. Cooking at home can help you eat more fiber and protein. If you have diabetes or heart disease, you may be able to manage your weight better.

6. Meditation

Set up a space where you feel comfortable and calm, where you can meditate. You may sit or lie down and take 5 to 10 minutes to focus only on your breathing. Practice gently breathing in and out. Listen to instrumental music and use calming scents such as mint, lavender, or eucalyptus during your sessions. Do this at least once a week to help reduce your blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels. It will also help you lower your stress, improve your ability to focus, and promote a sense of calmness.

Choose any of these 6 activities and start a new summer routine that will bring better physical, mental, and emotional health to your life. Whether you like to relax in the sun and enjoy nature or prefer indoor activities, there is something for everyone.

Make the most of this summer to stay active and healthy!
